Night on the Town...

On Friday afternoon, I had the crazy idea to take the kids out to a nice restaurant for dinner.  Dad got the kids dressed up in their Sunday best, and we went out to Sweet Basil for an early dinner.  Not only were the kids good - they were magnificent!  Wee M read quietly and Chippy worked on a coding puzzle.  They were very polite and ate a good dinner (including Chippy eating half the mussels and Wee M eating 3!).  As one table left they came over to tell the kids how they were the best behaved kids.  Better yet - when we left, the table behind called me over to ask what country we were from!  They guessed European.  When told that we were Canadian, they laughed and said they could tell the kids weren't American! Ha... So proud of the little munchkins! :)

In other updates, Wee M still continues to dance her way through life.  Morning and night she flits around with the music turned up high.  She has developed an interest in cooking and will often do a lot of the prep work for dad.  She loves to read - I even found her hunkered down in bed one night trying to read a book with the light of her owl nightlight.  Whenever she is quiet you know she's either upset with your -- or she's in bed or the playroom flipping through a stack of books.  Wee M had an excellent report card and at our teacher / parent interview with Jessica, her praises were sung!

Chippy continues to like his sports classes and his sports outfits!  However, is greatest love right now is making art.  He loves a good art project and will run to get paper and markers whenever he thinks of something that he can draw.  In addition to drawing things, he particularly likes drawing letters -- connected letters, bubble letters, 3D letters.  He's almost back to normal after his broken arm. He still can't make it entirely straight and he still draws some letters and numbers backwards - ones that he had right way around before having to use his left hand.  His best friends right now are William and Henry.

We started imposing chores on the kids a month or so ago.  Chippy is doing well with setting the table and making his bed (when reminded).  Wee M's chore is to help make dinner - but as dad says - she gets ticked off when she can't help make dinner, so it's more of something she wants to do than a 'chore'.  For this we offered a small weekly stipend - but thankfully Chippy has forgotten to uphold our end of the bargain - we are a few weeks behind in payment! :)

Overall the kids are doing great.  Chippy has settled down into his routine of school and Wee M continues to take it all in, unfazed by much of anything.  We went skating today and they are both doing well.  Chippy can skate by himself with shuffle steps.  Once he learns how to glide he'll be all set.  We skate with Wee M to keep her up, but she's really getting the hang of it and I'd expect her to be on her own too by next year.
